MAX235EPG+G36 - Maxim Integrated Function Overview

The MAX235EPG+G36 is a +5V powered multichannel RS232 driver/receiver in 24 pin DIP package. This device is intended for all EIA/TIA-232E and V.28/V.24 communications interfaces. It is particularly suitable for applications where ±12V is not available. The MAX235 has four sections such as dual charge pump DC to DC voltage converter, RS232 driver, RS232 receiver and receiver/transmitter enable control inputs. It also has integrated capacitors. The integrated charge pump circuitry eliminates the need for bipolar ±12V supply and enables single supply operation from +5V supply. The device uses no external components and is recommended for applications where printed circuit board space is critical. It is used in interface translation and multidrop RS232 network applications.

5µW shutdown mode saves power for reduced power requirements
Data rate of 120Kbps
Transition slew rate is 5.1V/µs (CL = 50pF to 2500pF, RL = 3Kohm to 7Kohm)
VCC supply current of 7mA with no load
Shutdown supply current of 1µA at TA = 25°C
