MAX3311EUB+ - Maxim Integrated Function Overview

The MAX3311EUB+ is a 460kbps, 1µA supply current, RS232 compatible transceiver in 10 pin µMAX package. This transceiver has a proprietary low dropout transmitter output stage enabling RS232 compatible operation from a +5V supply with a single inverting charge pump. The transmitter is an inverting level translator that converts CMOS logic levels to EIA/TIA-232 compatible levels and receiver converts RS-232 signals to CMOS logic output levels. The inverting charge pump provides a negative voltage from single +5V supply, it operates in a discontinuous mode and requires a flying capacitor and a reservoir capacitor to generate V- supply. It features a 1µA shutdown mode. In shutdown the device turns off the charge pump, pulls V- to ground and the transmitter output is disabled.
Supply voltage range is 4.5V to 5.5V
Operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C
One RS232 transmitter and one RS232 receiver
Require only three 0.1µF capacitor
Transmitter skew is 100ns at VCC = +5V
Receiver skew is 50ns at VCC = +5V
Transition region slew rate is 11V/µs at VCC = +5V
Maximum supply current is 250µA
