The FL5160MX is an IGBT and MOSFET AC phase cut dimmer controller for varying pulse width for AC loads in 10 pin SOIC package. It is powered from AC line and generates a programmable gate drive for controlling pulse width for external IGBT or MOSFET transistors. The pulse width can be user programmable with either an external resistor or 0V to 10V DC signal or controlled by a µP with a logic signal. The pulse width can be controlled from 0 to 100% duty cycle to provide a wide AC symmetric dimming control function when biased with a 3-wire application. For 2-wire line-hot and load-hot applications, the pulse width can typically be varied from 0 to a maximum gate pulse so that the load voltage is > 95% of AC line voltage. It has a user programmable over-current and temperature protection. With external sense resistors, the maximum voltage drop across Q1 and Q2 can be set to limit the maximum current and transistor power dissipation. It is used in dimmer switches and AC controls.
