The MAX3111EEWI+G36 is a SPI/MICROWIRE compatible UART and ±15kV ESD protected RS232 transceiver with internal capacitors in 28 pin WSOIC package. This device is an integration of RS232 transceiver and UART in a single package with two drivers and two receivers hence reduces cost and board space. A proprietary low dropout output stage enables the 2 driver/2 receiver interface to deliver true RS232 performance down to VCC = +3V while consuming only 0.45mA supply current. The receiver remains active in a hardware/software-invoked shutdown allowing external device to be monitored while consuming only 0.4mA (max) shutdown supply current. UART includes a crystal oscillator and baud-rate generator with software programmable divider ratios for all common baud rates from 300baud to 230kbaud. The UART and RS232 functions can be used together or independently since the two functions share only supply and ground connections. It is used in point of sale (POS) devices and handy terminals.
