The TDA4862 is an Integrated Circuit controls a boost converter in a way that sinusoidal current is taken from the 1-phase line supply and stabilized DC voltage at the output. The circuit acts as a harmonic filter which limits the harmonic currents resulting from the pulse charge currents of the capacitor during rectification in a conventional capacitive input rectifier circuit. The power factor which describes the ratio between active and apparent power is almost 1 and line voltage fluctuations are compensated very efficiently. The control method of the harmonic filter is based on the physical relationship between current and voltage at the boost converter choke. The transistor does not switch on until the current in the boost converter diode turns zero.
